Creating effective communicators
Who are you?
You are likely to be a dedicated and supportive parent of a child with a communication disorder or disability, a young adult who finds social situations difficult to navigate or someone who has a lot to say but limited or no verbal language to express themselves and who is looking for an alternate or augmentative communication method.
Who are we?
Bek and Pete Hockley, Speech Pathologists. We are a husband and wife team with a great love of play and communication in all its forms.
Our philosophy is based on play and connecting with others. We believe that communication and learning is best achieved when we are connected with another and experiencing joyfulness. Sessions involve chatting, play and fun while we develop you or your child’s effective communication method/s.
What can we do for you?
We focus on what is working well for you and your family to develop the most effective communicator possible. We want our client to be able to communicate with the people that matter to them, and the people that they need to connect with in their life. This might be anyone from their family, and friends to the staff at the corner shop or local library.
Bek’s interest areas are in children (0- 18) with Autism Spectrum Disorder, disabilities affecting speech, language and communication, social thinking difficulties and speech sound disorders.
Pete’s interest areas are particularly in developing communication for those clients who are non-verbal or have limited verbal language. His special interest area is augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and the doors it can unlock for those clients who are non-verbal or unintelligible in their speech.
We have clinic rooms in Battery Point, Bellerive and Kingston or can visit you at home or school. You choose the most appropriate and comfortable environment for your child.
